We are thrilled to announce that the Multicultural Action Plan (2025 – 2029) was launched last Friday, the 28th of March at the International Wall of Friendship. Minister for Community Services, Hon Roger Jaensch launched this milestone document that servs as a ‘roadmap to belonging’. This new five-year plan focuses on delivering important outcomes for the states ever-growing culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. The priorities and specific actions were developed from the important findings from the public consultation conducted in previous years.
MCOT played a key role in this public consultation, in collaboration with Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania, Welcome Cultural Services Tasmania (the previous Migrant Resource Centre North), and Culturally Diverse Alliance of Tasmania.
The Tasmanian Government declared, this is a ‘road map to belonging’. With over 120 ancestries and nearly one in ten Tasmanians speaking a language other than English, the new five-year plan focuses on positive outcomes for the states ever-growing culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities including inclusivity, respect and harmony.
Over 1000 people from CALD backgrounds and specific services took part in the consultation process with key themes to address being – racism of all types, safe and inclusive employment and education opportunities, and programs and services that meet the needs of our diverse communities.
$2 million dollars has been invested in the first two years of the action plan with the hope that our CALD members of the state feel better supported, have a sense of belonging, and feel safe.
The 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future will provide MCOT with elevated funding of $175,000 per annum for the next two years to assist with the implementation of the Multicultural Action Plan across our communities.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this document. It is wonderful to see our efforts put into action.
