Yousef Mohammadi – Board Member
I am originally from Afghanistan and arrived in Tasmania as a refugee in 2017. My lived experience has shaped my strong commitment to supporting refugees and migrants to build confident, connected lives.
For nearly five years, I have worked in Youth and Settlement Services at the Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania, and currently serve as a Team Leader. I support young people and newly arrived families as they settle, helping them develop independence and a sense of belonging. Although my academic background is in Microbiology, my deep engagement with the Hazara community inspired me to transition into community services. I now also serve as the leader of the Launceston Hazara Community, where I focus on advocacy, youth empowerment, strengthening cultural identity, and promoting inclusion.
I am also a small business owner in Launceston, contributing to the local economy and creating further connections with the broader community. In addition, I strongly believe sports play a powerful role to bring people together and create positive pathways for young people. I coach soccer and lead a team that competes interstate, besides enjoy hiking and gym exercises. I remain committed to building a more inclusive Tasmania where refugee’s voices are heard.
